I have a Friend in Internet Marketing and he is a Farmer.

This friend of mine is also from South Africa and he has a beautiful farm not far from where I live. If you look at his animals and his family, you would think him to be a very happy person. Her yearly fee is R12500 ($1563) and her accommodation is R1500 ($188) per month, thus another R18000 ($2250) per year plus travelling cost and other expenses of at least R10000 ($1250). Thus you have a total of R40500 ($5063) per year times four years is R162000 ($20250). To borrow this kind of money will take you a long time to repay your loan. As engineer I earn about R120000 ($15000) per year and the interest rate in South Africa is 15% at the moment and steadily increasing at about ½% per quarter.

To come back to my friend, he will have three children at University within a few years and even with a fully stocked farm, it will be very difficult for them to afford it. At the same time the fuel prices are increasing at an alarming rate and that have an effect on most of the other input costs like transport and fertilizer, etc. For the past few years the value of wool, mohair and meat have basically stayed the same and have not kept pace with inflation at all. To say the least, not a rosy picture at all.
